Reimagining Comfort and Functionality in Public Spaces

The design of Galaktika was driven by the need for attractive and functional furniture in public spaces, particularly airports, where furniture is often used for rest. The design is based entirely on spherical shapes, creating a visually appealing piece that also offers practicality.

What sets Galaktika apart from other armchairs is its dual functionality. It can be used for both sitting and resting, catering to the varying needs of users in public spaces. The upper bar of the chair is rotatable and can be used to attach electronic devices, adding another layer of convenience for users.

The armchair is constructed using chrome-plated or powder-coated metal bars, steel legs, and a wooden half-spherical part covered with leather. The internal zone is made of soft material and velvet, ensuring comfort for the user. The chair measures 1270 mm in height, 1290 mm in length, and 1130 mm in width.

The design process, which took place in Bulgaria over three months, involved extensive research to avoid similarities with existing products and to find a solution for the chair's dual functionality. The biggest challenge was the switching mechanism, which allows the chair to switch between sitting and resting positions.

Galaktika has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is a testament to Velchev's technical and artistic skill in creating a piece of furniture that not only looks good but also serves a practical purpose.
